Golfo de Fonseca was discovered in 1522, by the Spanish explorer and conqueror Gil Gonzalez de Avila. An archipelago is located in the middle of the gulf with many islands that belong t honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador. The salvadorean islands in the gulf of Fonseca are Meanguera, meanguerita, conchaguita, zacatillo, martin perez among others. According to the legend, the pirate Francis Drake buried his treasures at The Meanguera island and Punta Chiquirín, so far until today no treasures have been found.
